Summer In The Park Is Canceled

Summer In The Park Is Canceled

To all of our loyal Summer In The Park fans and supporters,
After 33 consecutive years of presenting Summer In The Park for the
citizens of San Marcos, the San Marcos Performing Arts Association has
made the tough decision to suspend all planning for the 2020 season.
This decision is made with a great deal of sadness, as this program is
truly a ‘labor of love’ for so many of us; however, at this point in time,
there are simply too many unknowns, and too much potential risk as it
relates to the advance of Covid-19 into our state and communities.
Promoting the gathering of a large audience of people into Plaza Park
for our concerts is not in the best interest of public health in our
community.
We all know that this virus will be beaten back eventually, but it will
take time and the dedicated effort of our medical science professionals
to develop effective medications and vaccines. Until we are confident
that we can gather without fearing ‘community spread’ of this
dangerous virus, we must actively support the need to stop the person
to person spread of Covid-19 by promoting large gatherings.
Summer In The Park is largely funded by local small businesses. As such,
we know that the dollars dedicated to Marketing plans may be needed
to cover critical business expenses. Many of our valued sponsors may
simply not be able to commit funds, even if the advance of Covid-19
should miraculously disappear in the next few weeks.
It is our HOPE that this terrible virus gets figured out very soon, and the
necessary medical science can be applied to defeat it. There will be
many more opportunities to gather and enjoy music in our park
together in the future. San Marcos Performing Arts promises to make
that happen.
